NEW RECRUIT JOINS
INFANTRY COMPANY
----------
CHARLES A. SMITH WANTS TO
"DO HIS BIT" IF WORST
COMES TO WORST
----------
Charles A. Smith, of Georgetown, came to the city Thursday morning for the express purpose of enlisting in Co. I, 5th regiment, Illinois National Guard. The young man applied to Capt. A. C. Reynolds, commander of the company, and was in turn, passed on to the examining physician. Young Mr. Smith explained that since the present situation seemed to indicate that the president will shortly call for troops, he wished to be as nearly ready as possible when the call shall come for him to go and "do his bit" as a good American.
