[Postcard -- Scene: LAROCHETTE - 1835, The old Luxemburg historic and
romantic]
We arrived in Larochette on Dec 19- 1918 at 1:30 P.M. Had mess
and imediately went up to view the ruins. Put my name on guest
book. Was with Ed Thomas, & Elmer Taylor. The ruins are of the
old citidel of Louis 14th. built in 1123 as inscribed on a marbel
block in the castle portion of the ruins. It is far above the
town on a rough; cragey rock. Makes you think of the rock of
Gibralter. There are drives thru, and a very deep well, a prison
tower, and a resistance portion with loopholes for firing from.
There are underground tunnels and one great underground lobby,
with great arched roof and pillars supporting. Looking from the
windows of the tower is like looking from a precipice, and far
below is a garden, beautifuly laid out and straight below that is
the little river & part of town far below. Beautiful fir trees
all over the point and view up the valley is wonderful.
inscription on marbel block is -
Anno MCXXIII Nom's Julii
Abiit Marcres Artovicus
Frigidus a Rupe
